BREXIT CHALLENGE THROWN OUT BY HIGH COURT

BREXIT CHALLENGE THROWN OUT BY HIGH COURT

Another legal challenge to Brexit was thrown out today by Mr Justice Ouseley sitting in the High Court.  The challenge was based on alleged irregularities in spending by Vote Leave.  The matter will not proceed to a full hearing due to the delay in bringing the challenge and the case’s lack of merit.

It is important to see the challenge in the wider political context and in the context of the Remain campaign’s spending, see here.

The ruling comes at the same time as the Prime Minister ruling out a revocation of the article 50 notification, in light of the ECJ ruling that the notification could be withdrawn, unilaterally.  This is despite her withdrawal proposal, which does not come close to a substantive extrication from the EU.
